Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee as the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.

The star player injured himself towards the end of the second quarter following an accidental coming together with team-mate Jones.

The other player stepped on the foot of the big man, and he promptly went down to the court holding his knee.

The star, that tops the NBA this season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the setback.

The player is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the problem.

"Instantly, Jokic knew he was hurt," commented Denver coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who suffers an injury, it's tough to see, particularly somebody as special as him. More information will come tomorrow."

"We'll move on as a team. Of course, at this moment, I'm focused primarily about him personally and the frustration of experiencing a situation of that nature."
