This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
