The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
