The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.

Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
