New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

New York police shared security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
