Brian Eno Encourages Support to Propel Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to propel a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort hopes to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of talented individuals. The track showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have stated that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the region was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The song is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
