Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with results like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
